AnnaSophia Robb covers the February issue of Teen Vogue to promote “The Carrie Diaries,” which is the “Sex And The City” prequel set to premiere on the CW on January 14. Robb plays the high-school, mid-1980s version of Carrie Bradshaw, and from the looks of the show’s set photos, Robb looks the part of corkscrew-curly, fashion-obsessed Carrie. I still haven’t decided whether or not I’ll give this show a chance or not because the CW doesn’t have the greatest track record for holding my attention. In addition, I’ve already explained my “SATC” fatigue in the sense that the original show’s gimmick wore out its welcome after about four seasons, and the two follow-up movies really drove the final Manolo Blahniks into the franchise coffin, so to speak. Will the prequel actually be worth it, though? Who knows. I’ll wait for some television reviews to come out, but I’m not holding my breath. Here are some excerpts from Robb’s interview:
How she became Carrie: “They told me that I got the part because I did a little chicken dance at the end of my audition, after they asked me about my prom. I’ve got rhythm, but not the moves to go with it, and I guess they liked that I wasn’t afraid to be goofy.”
She “never” gets hit on by dudes: “Everyone always says that guys are intimidated by me, but I seriously doubt it. I mean, I’m five-foot-nothing! I think I must make a stank face.”
On NYC: “I think I was made to live in New York. I love it. I love being able to walk everywhere, and there’s so much going on — I actually get a little nervous on the weekends, wondering what to do and who to hang out with. When I used to watch ‘Gossip Girl’ or ‘Sex and the City,’ I thought the things that happened were totally exaggerated. But then I got here and realized they’re not. That’s what it’s really like! Just today, for example, I was walking through the park, and there was a guy playing a piano, absolutely beautifully, right in the middle of a plaza. That doesn’t happen in normal cities.”
On her own teenage years: “I loved high school. Everyone always asks me if the other kids treated me differently because of my career, but they didn’t. If you act weird, people are going to treat you weird, but if you’re just yourself, people respond to that.”

Robb seems like a sweet girl, and she’s obviously a fan of the show to the degree that perhaps her Carrie will be authentic to the original spirit of the character. Except hopefully not too authentic, if you know what I mean. This is a show about the high-school exploits of Carrie, so it had better not be too racy! This Teen Vogue shoot itself is rather strange and paints Robb as a mod-girl/Twiggy clone, which is weird since she’s promoting the “SATC” prequel. Maybe it’s an “it girl” thing.
