Noted blues musician and singer John Jackson died from kidney failure January 20 at his home in Fairfax Station, Virginia. He was 77.
Jackson was discovered in 1964 by Charles Perdue, who teaches folklore at the University of Virginia, at a gas station where he was playing for some friends.
He received the National Heritage Fellowship Award in 1986.
